Infrared Thermography can be important to prevent otherwise undetectable maintenance problems.
Thermal imaging allows the detection of overloaded hot circuits, low integrity or high resistance connections, underrated wiring, and many other defective electrical parts before they fail, potentially catching fire to cause facility damage and/or production losses. Most important, thermal imagery can eliminate the risk of human injury and/or loss of life.
Thermal photography (thermography) technology utilizes radiation emitted in the infrared light spectrum to image and measure thermal problems that are normally undetectable to the human eye. Without shutting down equipment or interfering with production, a thermographic inspection can detect problems in almost any electrical panel, motor controller, switchgear cabinets, breakers, fuses, transformers, terminations, and equipment control panels that could easily result in electrical fires, mechanical breakdowns, or significant business interruption.
Commercial Electric Systems uses state-of-the-art thermal cameras to detect, display and document hot spots using the infrared radiation (heat) emitted by an object. The information is converted to a real-time, visible light image and temperature measurement, which is displayed and recorded. Using these infrared pictures it provides early warning and documentation for potential electrical failures.
Thermographic Inspection allows the repair or reengineering of high risk electrical problems immediately. There is no need to wait for the report before planning corrective actions. APTC prepares a formal report detailing the problem, showing a visual image and a thermogram of the problem. Recommended solutions are proposed and can be immediately implemented for high risk areas.
